James 1:22 But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.
In 1820, a Greek farmer on the island of Milos uncovered some blocks of carved stone. Digging deeper, he found four statues. One of them was bought by a French archaeological team and sent to Paris. Now people from all over the world go to Paris just to see it: the Venus de Milo.
That Greek farmer had no idea what was buried on his farm. The only way he found the treasure was to dig for it. The same is true of the Bible. The only way to find the treasure God has put in it is to read it.
These daily devotionals are written to spur your interest in daily picking up your Bible and reading the whole thing. In fact, if you read according to the “Today’s Readings” at the bottom of each one you will read through the Old Testament once, and the New Testament twice, in one year.
But merely reading the Bible isn’t enough. We have to put it into practice. We have to let the Bible convict us, convince us, and change us. There is indeed treasure in the Bible, and it is easy to find, you just have to dig in!
Today’s Readings: Isaiah 29-31; James 1
