2 Peter 3:3 Most importantly, I want to remind you that in the last days scoffers will come, mocking the truth and following their own desires.
There are many variations of the story that a young boy was brought before Alexander the Great for stealing a horse. Alexander saw how young he was and heard his story and decided he would go easy on him. Getting ready to release him, Alexander asked the young boy, “What is your name?”
He replied, “Alexander, sir.”
Alexander the Great was furious and asked him again, “What is your name?”
The boy, this time with fear in his voice said, “Alexander, sir.”
In anger, Alexander the Great threw the boy to the ground pointed at him and said, “Boy, change your conduct, or change your name.”
Change your conduct or change your name. There are many people today who would like to either be Christian or be thought of as Christian. Whether it is to fit in, or for political or monetary gain, the title of Christian is important for them to have. There is one obstacle for them: God’s Word condemns their lifestyles and choices. Once convicted of their sins, they have a choice to change their conduct or change what they call themselves.
They have chosen to mock God by continuing in their sin and saying that not only is God okay with their sin (He’s not), but that He actually created them to be sinful (He hasn’t). So instead of changing, they make a mockery of the Christian faith by trying to mold Christianity around their sin.
It is vital for us to remember that God doesn’t change to fit our lives, our lives have to change to fit God. God won’t change just because society says He must. Society must change to meet God. If you read something in the Bible that confronts the way you live you have two choices: change your conduct or change your name.
Make the right choice.
